Prospect members and their families can get free legal advice for non-work related problems from the LegalLine helpline. Members can call as many times as they want and as well as providing legal advice on any documents members fax or email to them, the helpline will also assist with drafting documentation for members to help pursue their claim. The helpline is operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Members can also get free legal assistance if they have had an accident and want to sue a third party for negligence which has resulted in personal injury. Providing our solicitors say that a claim has more than a 50% chance of succeeding, we will support it. The union's Personal Injury Line is open during the same hours as LegalLine (see above). This service also covers members' partners and children up to and including the age of 18.
Members in Guernsey have a legal assistance scheme similar to that of LegalLine, operated by Babbe Le Pelley Tostevin in St. Peter Port. Guernsey members can also get legal assistance for queries involving their employment or an accident.
The union also provides a Will Writing Service whereby members can get a simple standard will free of charge, with a mirrored will for their spouse or partner. Should the member's wishes be a little more complicated and need to be more personalised to cover precisely their exact requirements, they will be charged a discounted fixed fee as part of the service.
Members also have access to a web-based conveyancing service, through the union's arrangement with TitleAbsolute. The service provides a fully transparent transaction, 24 hour access to a secure personal file, and no legal fees - only disbursements - to pay if the sale does not complete.
