Changes are constant in modern working life and employees need the right skills to respond to them. ULRs are in the right position to follow these changes and assist colleagues in the process. Learning also provides fun and fulfilment - which is what lifelong learning is really about. It can also help you to deal with stress and to find a better work-life balance. ULRs' role is about finding opportunities for learning. For employers, a learning culture in the workplace means better staff retention and morale and possible long-term financial gains. In many cases wide learning and training opportunities can make companies the employers of choice.
We have established a network of ULRs. UK legislation gives unions rights to appoint ULRs in companies where the employer recognises the union.
ULRs have a right to reasonable time off with pay to perform the rep's duties, which can include:
• undertaking training for the role • analysing learning and training needs • brokering and arranging learning opportunities with learning providers • opportunities to address equality in access for training • monitoring the quality of learning provision • signposting for career advice when appropriate
Are you interested in becoming a Union Learning Rep?
• can you create trust and empathy with work colleagues? • can you treat information in total confidence? • are you enthusiastic about the learning agenda? • are you willing to learn? • do you want to help others? • are you a Prospect member?
If you answered yes to these questions, contact Anne O'Connor on 020 8971 6052 or anne.oconnor@prospect.org.uk and learn more about becoming a ULR. |
